SHOW REPORT

2024 CPFA Classic Show,
October 4-6, 2024

The 2024 CPFA Classic show, hosted by the Vancouver Poultry & Fancy Pigeon Association, was held on October 4th to 6th. It’s been two years and three cancellations since we’ve been able to host a show due to avian influenza government restrictions on our events. Our show is typically held at the beginning of November, however the directors decided to hold the show earlier in the year to guarantee its successful go ahead. It’s very challenging to have a show this early in the year as most exhibitors’ birds are moulting, and not in show condition. With those challenges, we still managed to have a show with 669 birds entered from 38 exhibitors. A special thank you to those exhibitors who travelled long distances to support our show.

Thank you to our judges, Dennis Manning, Darrell Sebastian, Hally Coats and Hank Ebbelaar.
Thank you to Ken and Elaine Chatwin who once again put together a
beautiful exhibitors reception buffet on Friday night. Ken and Elaine have been doing this for many years and it is one of the highlights of our show! Ken Chatwin also supplied many beautiful gifts at our banquet raffle.

We would also like to thank Jonkman equipment for supplying feed for our show as they have done for many years.
Western Bird Supplies were at the show as well with lots of supplements and loft supplies for purchase.
We also had some amazing items donated for our show raffles and silent
auction this year. Thank you to Marianne Harangozo for donating a beautiful pair of Archangels, and to David Vandermeer for donating a beautiful pair of Norwich Croppers. Both pairs fetched a lot of funds for the show!

Earlier this year we lost two exhibitors that normally support our show every year, Jim Jesse and Casey Vandermeer.
Jim Jesse was a true gentleman of the hobby. He always loved to sit and tell his stories. Jim often travelled to shows across Canada and the United States with Bob Pilcher and Darrell Sebastian. Jim’s breed of choice was the Oriental Frill, and he had some of the best in North America.
Casey Vandermeer was a giant in the hobby. He generously helped so many in the hobby and attended many shows across Canada and the United States. It seemed like nothing would stop Casey
from attending a show. He was challenged with a lot of health issues for many years, but always seemed to make it to our show. Casey also brought with him an entire entourage of exhibitors.

At our banquet, we held a moment of silence to remember them and others who we lost this past year. We honoured both gentlemen for the impact that they made to our hobby and the friendships that we had with them. Artist David Alexander created and donated two beautiful paintings that were given to the families in attendance at our banquet.

Finally, thank you to all the volunteers and show committee that made this a successful show.
