SHOW REPORT

2017 CPFA Classic & 40th Anniversary
Western Canadian National Show,
November 3 - 5, 2017

A Few Notes From Your Show Secretary:

Judging by the number of entries in the show (1110) and the number of exhibitors (55), I would have to say there is still interest in our hobby, as this was our largest show we have had over the past 20 years.

Our show seems to be of interest to fanciers from all across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest (including California). The success of our show is a group effort, starting with our club members, exhibitors who travel at great lengths to attend our show, and especially our board of directors, who work extensively and tirelessly to ensure our club can host a great show.

Weather was an issue for those travelling from the Interior and the Prairies. Thanks to those that braved the weather, some did not make it to the show, which must be disappointing for them.

Many thanks to our judges John DeCarlo Jr, Lennie Mefford, Bob Pilchar, Darrell Sebastian, David Vandermeer, Gerald Wiebe and Dave Williamson who managed to complete the judging of all the birds in one day! Special thanks to Darrell, David and Gerald for offering to help judge due to the last minute cancellation of Dennis Manning.

Due to the large number of birds in the show, managing to get all the award and best of breed pictures taken by Larry Brown before coop out on Sunday morning as a challenge. Some birds got missed, which is unfortunate. If you are missing your award certificate, you can send me a picture of your bird and I will complete your award certificate.

Thanks to our sponsors, Jonkman Feeds for providing the feed for the show, Ken and Elaine Chatwin (Compass Cladding) for sponsoring the exhibitors’ reception, and to the CPFA for providing financial support to our show. Support for our show raffle, show auction and banquet auction is appreciated, as this helps finance our show. The auction and raffle would not be successful without the efforts of Ken Chatwin managing the banquet raffle, and Givo Hassko for managing the show raffle and auction. Of course if goes without saying, that our show would not continue to be a success without the hard work and connections of our President, Ernie Silveri, thanks Ernie!

Finally, many thanks to the spouses and family members for supporting us in our hobby, special thanks to my wife Victoria, for helping me with my show secretary duties before, during and after the show.

Hope to see everyone again next year.

Regards,

Keith Biggs
