Winter Show Nov. 7 - 9, 2008 - Show Report

Well known fantail fancier Larry Brown accepted the honours of judging the fancy pigeons at the The Vancouver Poultry & Fancy Pigeon Association’s annual Winter Show, Nov. 7-9, 2008 at the Abbotsford fairgrounds. Brian Krog was gracious in accepting the honours of judging the flying Birmingham Rollers during his visit at our show. Brian is a well know flying roller breeder and traveled from Lumby, BC to visit our show.

The exhibitors reception was held Friday evening, and was once again sponsored by Compass Cladding. Thanks to Daryl Dahlen, Ken and Elaine Chatwin for providing appetizers and refreshments for our exhibitors and guests. This is an annual event at our show, which members look forward to attending every year.

Mountain Pacific Racing Society joined us again this year with hosting their annual racing show. Tony Correai, Victoria, BC had a full day of judging the racing show and judging the show type homers in our show. Competition was tough for the show type homers, congratulations to Chester Lompart for Champion Flying Pigeon and Champion Young Flying Pigeon.

Larry Brown also had a full day judging the fancy pigeons, as our entries were up this year, at 374 pigeons. Congratulations to Double V Lofts for Champion Fancy Pigeon and Champion Young Fancy Pigeon with a Norwich Cropper Young Cock.

The club hosted an awards dinner on Saturday evening at a local restaurant. The awards dinner was well attended, as our president, Ernie Silveri, presented awards to the winners. Ernie was also honoured this evening as he was presented with a life member award for his many contributions to our club. Congratulations Ernie!

The show setup and clean-up was handled efficiently, thanks to the direction of Ken Chatwin and his no. 1, George Van Viet. To all those members that volunteered to help Ken and George, I thank you as well.

That’s it for another year.
